Bible stories for kids

and why they’re important!

It was recently reported in the Telegraph  that less than half of children these days are regularly exposed to common Bible stories such as creation and Noah’s Ark.

According to Graham Paton, Education Editor in an article published on February 7, 2014: “Figures suggest that the number of children regularly reading or hearing Bible stories has halved over the last 20 or 30 years. It emerged that 46 per cent of schoolchildren are exposed to the book at home or in the classroom at least once a year compared with almost nine-in-10 of their parents’ generation.”

The report goes on to suggest quite shockingly that 1 in 5 kids could not identify Adam and Eve, or Noah, as Biblical characters. bible stories for kids

Is this really a big deal?

You might well be thinking this is just a reflection of today’s world. Are bible stories for kids really a big deal anyway? Well, they are if you want your kids to have an understanding of where your faith comes from, or simply why you believe what you believe.

The Israelites had a very strong grasp of how important it was and made sure they taught their kids well.

“18 Fix thebible stories for kidsse words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.” Deut 11:18-21 NIV

 What do you believe?

If you really do think it’s important to teach your kids about the God of the Bible then accept the challenge to teach them when you sit at home, when you drive in the car, when you go to bed and when you wake up. These are great times to talk with your kids, to share Bible stories, to pray and build them up and encourage their faith.

  • Wow. 1 in 5 kids don’t know the story of Adam and Eve? That really is shocking! Our Bible stories are such an important tool for teaching kids about our Christian values. We have to bring these stories back into the home. Thank you, Dwight, for helping to provide us with the resources to do so!
